The Plan

It started with my friend giving me four laying hens. The ladies are wonderful and have been giving us 3-4 eggs a day. Blogs and forums said Red Star chickens were not good foragers, but I have found that to be completely false. The make short work of patches of dirt or grass.

Taking the leap of raising layers was inspired by our families journey to eat closer to home and provide our family with the best food possible. The next step is raising chickens for meat. The next few posts will detail my journey to gear up for the spring chicken raise.
